Privacy Policy
This policy describes what happens to data when you visit The Fix Bench. It names the specific services involved rather than describing them in general terms, because a policy you cannot check is not much use.
Who is responsible
The Fix Bench is an independent site. Questions about anything here, including requests about your data, go to hello@thefixbench.com.
Hosting
The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages and served through Cloudflare's network. Cloudflare processes your IP address and request metadata in order to deliver pages and to protect the site from abuse. This happens for every visitor and cannot be switched off — it is how the request reaches you.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which guides get read and where readers arrive from. It collects your approximate location, device and browser type, the pages you view, and an identifier stored in your browser. We do not use it to identify you personally and we do not attempt to link it to anything else.
Consent. If you are in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, analytics and advertising storage are set to denied by default before any Google tag loads, using Google Consent Mode. Nothing is stored in your browser for these purposes unless and until consent is given.
Mail sent to our address is delivered through Cloudflare Email Routing and forwarded to a private inbox. We keep correspondence only as long as it is useful — a correction is kept with the article it corrects, so we have a record of why the article changed.
What we do not do
- We do not sell personal information.
- We do not run advertising on this site at present.
- We do not use affiliate links at present.
- There are no accounts, logins, comments or newsletters, so there is nothing to sign up to and nothing for us to store about you.
The second and third of those will change, and this page will be updated before they do rather than after.
Cookies and similar storage
The only browser storage set by this site comes from Google Analytics, under the consent conditions above. There is no cookie set for site functionality, because the site does not need one.
Your rights
Depending on where you live you may have the right to access, correct, delete or port your data, to object to processing, and — in the United States — to opt out of sale or sharing. We do not sell or share data, but the other rights apply. Write to hello@thefixbench.com and say what you want done.
You can also opt out of Google Analytics entirely using Google's browser add-on, which works across every site that uses it.
Children
This site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If this policy changes materially we will update the date below. The most likely change is the addition of advertising and affiliate links, both of which introduce processing not described above.
